This CD (which is going to be manufactured in the next few days, by the way), and those that follow, will give help a lot more people have access to Wikipedia, many people who couldn't otherwise be reached. These are just snapshots of the online Wikipedia - and they don't interfere in any way with people being able to edit the online version. Free access to knowledge is the main purpose here, and the wiki is just a means to that end."

I was overjoyed, when I came across an offline wikipedia designed for schools. Wikipedia CD is produced by volunteers of SOS Children NGO and its a pretty good collection of articles.

From uthcode project, we have planned to ship 100 Wikipedia CDs for FREE to students of the schools in Bangalore. Following the 100 Free CDs, Wikipedia Offline releases will be available for sale for Rs. 50 per CD. Cost of DVD distribution not decided yet.

Please note that:

  • If you can afford to download the CD content over broadband,please download it. Refer this site to your friend, who does not have an High Speed Internet Connnection at Home.
  • Free CDs available for Bangalore schools only.
  • If this will be useful to your other friends in School, please ask your school teacher to contact me, so that we can workout a wikipedia cd for everyone in the class.
